Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy

The Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) at LivWell Integrated Health are allied health practitioners who assess and treat the musculoskeletal system to help develop, maintain, rehabilitate or improve physical function, mobility, and overall health. Massage therapy is often prescribed to help with muscular tension and overuse, persistent pain syndromes, physical manifestation of stress, and acute or chronic injury rehabilitation.

What is massage therapy?

A massage treatment involves a hands-on approach where the therapist applies varying degrees of pressure and movement to muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and skin.

What is massage therapy used for?

Different types of massage therapy are used to treat many different conditions, such as chronic inflammation, pain or stress.

Some conditions include:
  • Anxiety
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Sports injuries
  • Repetitive strains

Advanced skills in massage therapy include visceral manipulation, where connections between internal organs, the nervous system, and surrounding connective tissues are mobilized to help improved circulation and reduce rigidity. This can be particularly useful when there is internal scar tissue from surgery or longstanding inflammation or illness. Massage therapy promotes circulation in the vascular and lymphatic systems as well, which can benefit all clients, and those individuals who have additional fluid or swelling due to injury or chronic conditions they are managing.

Our Massage Therapy treatments include:
  • Biodynamic Myofascial Mobilization
  • Joint Mobility/Play
  • Soft Tissue Mobilization
  • Structural Integration
  • Swedish Massage
  • Trigger Point Release
  • Visceral Manipulation

Structural Integration (SI)

Structural integration is a type of manual therapy that focuses on the connective tissue, or fascia, of the body, and is used to relieve trauma, stress, postural imbalances, chronic and acute aches and pains, while integrating the body/mind connection.

It can involve the client doing active movement of the muscle or fascia that is being treated. Niki West has advanced training in Structural Integration therapy.

Visceral Manipulation (VM)

Visceral Manipulation is a treatment technique used to locate and solve problems throughout the various systems of the body including the nervous system and internal organs.

VM encourages the body’s natural healing mechanisms to improve the functioning of organs, dissipate the negative effects of stress, enhance mobility of the musculoskeletal system through the connective tissue attachments, and influence general metabolism. VM also assists functional and structural imbalances throughout the body, while increasing the proprioceptive communication within the body, thereby relieving symptoms of pain, dysfunction, and poor posture. Niki West has additional training in Visceral Manipulation.
