Dr. Melissa Wheaton

Registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturist

Dr. Wheaton is a graduate of the 5 year Dr. TCM program from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Vancouver, BC.

Her studies included training in the 5 branches of Chinese medicine; acupuncture, herbal medicine, Tui na (massage), diet therapy and Qi gong. During her 5th year internship, she was fortunate to travel to the renowned China Medical University Hospital in Taiwan. There she followed many accomplished doctors and witnessed a remarkable integration of Chinese and Western medicine in patient care. This experience inspired a journey to pursue additional postgraduate training in allergies/asthma, inflammatory diseases, and a postgraduate diploma in Dermatology under the instruction of Mazin Al-Khafaji, a world leader in both Traditional and Modern Chinese Medicine. With her diploma in Dermatology, Dr. Wheaton has become a member of the International Traditional Chinese Medicine Dermatology Association (ITCMDA). Dr. Wheaton has also completed programs in Western Herbology and Nutrition Practitioner in order to offer these adjunct therapies within her practice. She is always working to deepen her understanding of Chinese medicine and refine her skill set. Her areas of study include, Women’s health, pre and postnatal care, pediatrics, neuropuncture, and the classics.

Dr. Wheaton’s approach is always one of compassion, as she takes into consideration the whole person and the many influences that contribute to their current health. She strives not only to eliminate symptoms, but to treat the underlying cause, and in doing so, helps to increase the body’s overall function and vitality. It gives Dr. Wheaton great joy to see Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture change so many lives and she is looking forward to being a part of your path towards optimal health. She is happy to accept new patients and has a general practice with clinical focus in dermatology, women’s health, obstetrics and pediatrics.

When Melissa is not in the clinic she enjoys spending time on the trails biking, hiking, skiing and climbing. In the summer you can find her working in her garden where she enjoys growing many local and Chinese medicinal herbs.
