Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine blends modern scientific evidence with traditional and natural forms of medicine. Naturopathic doctors are primary care practitioners providing care for all health concerns in addition to providing complementary or supportive care to conventional medicine.

Our naturopathic doctors are extensively trained in the multiple disciplines of naturopathic health, including clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, Chinese medicine, and hydrotherapy. At LivWell Integrated Health our goal is to provide you with a comprehensive healthcare plan that fits your needs.

Naturopathic Medicine: The Principles

  1. First Do No Harm – Premum Non Nocere.

Naturopathic Doctors are committed to methods and medicines that minimize the risk to harmful side effects.

  2. Identify And Treat The Cause – Tolle Causam.

Naturopathic Doctors seek to identify and remove the underlying causes of dis-ease and illness rather than eliminating or supressing symptoms.

  3. Doctor as teacher – Docere.

Educating and sharing knowledge with our patients is an empowering part of Naturopathic Medicine. We encourage patients to assume personal responsibility for their health and to believe in their own innate ability to heal.

  4. Treat The Person As A Whole – Totaliter Sanare.

Every person is an individual with a unique mental, emotional, physical and genetic composition. Thus, every patient will require a one of a kind treatment strategy.

  5. Emphasize Prevention – Primum Munire.

Our goal is to emphasize health ahead of treating disease. Our role is to help patients identify risk factors in their lives and to respond to these in ways that will prevent illness prior to symptoms appearing.

  6. Support The Healing Power Of Nature – Vis Medicatrix Naturae.

Every human is inherently granted an innate and ordered ability to heal. Our role as a Naturopathic Doctor is to support, facilitate and augment the healing power within each person. Your role as the patient is to prevent and cure.

Naturopathic Medicine: Disciplines

Clinical Nutrition:

Nutrition and the therapeutic use of foods is paramount to health. Food intolerances, dietary imbalances and nutritional excesses as well as deficiencies, have been associated with many medical ailments. Proper nutrition is the foundation for preventing and treating many health conditions and ensuring lifelong wellness. Naturopathic Doctors are trained to understand the impact your diet is having on your health. Through appropriate dietary modifications, nutritional and nutraceutical supplementation, health concerns can be addressed and patient healing ensues.

Botanical Medicine:

Naturopathic doctors are extensively trained in both the art and science of botanical medicine. Medicinal plants play a valuable role in health care and nearly 40% of modern pharmaceuticals were originally derived from wild plants. Naturopathic Doctors have long employed these medicinal properties in their clinical practice. These plants and their synergistic properties are highly effective and safe in the right dosage and when used correctly with other herbs and treatments. Herbs can be prepared in many forms, such as teas, tinctures and capsules and allow the patient treatment to retain its connection to nature. Naturopathic doctors are currently the only health care providers in Canada to be regulated for the use of botanical medicine.

Chinese Medicine:

Traditional Chinese Medicine was developed over more than 3000 years ago. The eastern use of diet, herbal medicine and acupuncture is now recognized in the west as a sophisticated and effective branch of medical practice.
Acupuncture follows the doctrine that energy (Qi) flows naturally through the body. When there is disease or pain in the body, there is a blockage in this flow of Qi. Through acupuncture and Chinese Medicine we can stimulate energy, eliminate any disruptions of Qi, and restore balance to the body to achieve optimal health.

Hydrotherapy:

Hydrotherapy involves the application of water, generally alternating hot and cold, to stimulate circulation and promote healing. It can be used to support the immune system, reduce pain and promote the excretion of toxins. Water has been used for healing for many years.

Other Naturopathic Medicine:

Comprehensive Laboratory Testing:

We offer advanced diagnostic testing in order to understand the big picture of your biological terrain, when warranted. In addition to routine blood work, we provide the patient with access to a variety of additional lab tests including urinalysis, stool and saliva testing, on a case by case basis. Naturopathic doctors use standard laboratory testing to provide further information for a complete naturopathic assessment. By gathering information from your whole body, we gain more insight into appropriate treatment and help you to attain your health goals.
Prescriptive Authority:

Dr. Nadine Crowe and Dr. Natasha Wrenshall both hold certification in Prescriptive Authority.
