Zero Tolerance Policy

At LivWell Integrated Health our front desk employees are responsible for all administrative roles particularly focused on helping to schedule patients, take payments, and assist with submitting insurance to extended health providers. Our practitioners are professionals trained in various health disciplines and are regulated under their respective colleges and the provincial healthcare act. The workplace we foster is a safe space for our employees, practitioners, patients and their families.

As such, we have a Zero Tolerance Policy in place to protect all parties in the clinic setting.

The following are behaviours and language that WILL NOT BE TOLERATED by anyone, anywhere in the clinic whether in person, over the phone, or by email:

  • Swearing, shouting, offensive or abusive language, or any words that are disrespectful or demeaning.
  • Discriminatory comments or actions based on a person’s race, culture, religion, or other protected characteristics.
  • Suggestive remarks, flirtations, advances, gestures, unwanted attention, or any other sexual misconduct.
  • Words or actions intended to intimidate, threaten, or cause fear.
  • Any unwanted physical interaction, physical harm, or physical threat of harm to others.
  • Destroying clinic property, theft, or any criminal activity on clinic premises.
  • Persistent or forceful demands, refusal to listen, or raised voices.
  • Being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while attending the clinic.

Consequences for Violating the Zero Tolerance Policy:

Violation of this policy can result in a patient receiving a warning that will be documented in their clinical record, being asked to leave the clinic, being discharged from the clinic’s services, and depending on the circumstances may require the involvement of law enforcement.

Violations will be responded to using the following procedural plan:

  • Written Warning – For less serious violations a verbal and written warning will be provided to the patient. The warning will also be entered into the clinical record along with details of the violation. Only one warning will be provided to a patient. If the behaviour persists or the patient is provided a warning for a separate violation the patient will be discharged from the clinic permanently.
  • Immediate and Permanent Discharge – Any violent, threatening, or seriously inappropriate or abusive behaviour will result in immediate and permanent removal from the clinic.
  • Police Involvement – Where patients are disruptive, aggressive, and/or intimidating, and refuse to leave when asked, staff will contact Police for assistance.
  • Reporting to Police/Legal Action – Threats, violence, harassment, or criminal acts will be reported to the Police or other relevant authorities.

Thank you for your attention to this information and for helping to maintain a respectful and safe environment for everyone.
